Sony's State of Play showcase took place yesterday, and it served as a window to what PlayStation's legacy is and what Sony plans to do in the future when it comes to gaming, with its unique reveals that kept the gaming community glued. The event that started off as usual slowly took a turn into a landmark showcase, with some of the biggest names making a comeback, as well as some third-party publishers like Konami and Capcom, who kept up the presentations. It all got really upbeat when Santa Monica Studios took the stage with its new God of War remake announcement that fans of the game have been looking forward to. So let's take a look at all the things that were announced at State of Play 2026.
The Big One From Santa Monica Studio
The showcase itself was big, but when it comes to what stood out and dominated, it was definitely Santa Monica Studios' big reveal. The studio was celebrating the God of War franchise's 20th anniversary and announced that it will be dropping two major projects. Firstly, the studio confirmed that the original God Of War, which is with Greek mythology, that I personally grew up playing, is going to make a comeback with its trilogy remake. What makes this reveal even more memorable for old-time fans is the original voice actor TC Carson will be making a comeback. Although the project is still in works, it plans to bring the original series with new visual fidelity on PS5.
Not just that, the studio also announced another God of War title which will actually be in 2D. This was God of War: Sons of Sparta, a Metroidvania-type prequel to young Kratos and his brother Deimos's story, being developed by the team that gave us Ragnarök.
John Wick And MARVEL Tōkon Step Into The Spotlight
Action fans got an unexpected treat with the reveal of an untitled John Wick game in development at Sabre Interactive. The project is being shaped alongside franchise director Chad Stahelski, and Keanu Reeves will lend both his voice and likeness to the game.
Alongside that reveal, Arc System Works confirmed that MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls will launch on August 6, 2026, for PS5 and PC. The latest trailer put the focus on the “Unbreakable X-Men” roster, spotlighting characters such as Wolverine, Magik and Storm.
Kena Returns And Silent Hill Gets Closer
Story-driven fans also had plenty to look forward to. Ember Lab officially announced Kena: Scars of Kosmora, the long-awaited follow-up to Bridge of Spirits. Slated for a 2026 release on PS5 and PC, the sequel promises a larger world and combat built around elemental abilities.
Meanwhile, Konami finally shared gameplay from Silent Hill: Townfall, confirming a fully first-person experience. The reveal introduced the CRTV device, a modern evolution of the series’ iconic radio, which players will rely on to navigate the unsettling town when the game launches later this year.
2026 Release Dates And PlayStation Plus Updates
The event also locked in several major dates for 2026. Ghost of Yōtei Legends arrives as a free supernatural co-op update on March 10. Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 is set for August 27, finally bringing MGS4 to modern consoles.
