Elon Musk Moon AI factory news: Elon Musk is known for his out-of-this-world ideas, some of them so unconventional sometimes that they might even sound impossible, and now the tech titan is out with another idea that might make you think twice. Jensen Huang, Nvidia's chief, has previously iterated that if there was someone who could build the world's fastest AI infrastructure, it would be Elon Musk. Recently at an internal meeting of xAI, Musk revealed a plan of his, and his vision is to build an AI satellite factory on the moon. Apart from that, he also said that by the end of this year, engineers will no longer be required for coding.
Shoot for the Moon
According to Elon Musk, currently the human civilisation only utilises 1 per cent of Earth's energy resources, and in the meeting Musk expressed that even if we were able to harness a millionth of the sun's energy, it would surpass the energy we are able to harness and consume on Earth by a million times. But for this our civilisation will have to go beyond the boundaries of our planet and hop right into space.
Data Centres in Space
The tech titan has announced that he plans to establish huge data centres in space with the capacity of 100 to 200 gigawatts, utilising his space wing SpaceX. Firstly, the plan focuses on data centres in the earth orbital plane; however, he has expressed that if the energy capacity exceeds 1 terawatt, the operations will have to move to the Moon. For this very purpose Musk wants to build an AI satellite manufacturing factory there.
What Is Microhard Object by Musk?
Yes, the name as it looks is a dig at Microsoft, as Musk has said. Under this 'Microhard' project, Musk plans to utilise AI to design complex machines, like rocket engines; this, according to him, will eliminate human error.
Musk has now reorganised his AI venture, xAI, into four distinct units, each focused on a different piece of the puzzle. One team, Grok, is dedicated to improving existing chatbots and voice-based assistants. Another group is focused purely on coding, building tools aimed at developers. The Imagine team will handle video generation and creative AI projects, while the Microhard team will work behind the scenes on advanced AI hardware and machine design.

No Engineers Required For Coding?
He also made a bold claim about the future of software development. According to Musk, human involvement in coding could disappear by the end of this year. He said a new model called Grok Code should be ready within the next two to three months, capable of writing software independently at the level of a seasoned engineer. Beyond that, the system is expected to identify and fix bugs on its own, handling even complex coding work without human input.
