Google Gemma, a new series of open models designed specifically for developers and researchers looking to create responsible AI systems, has been officially introduced. The Gemma are lightweight models inspired by Google's Gemini models and produced by Google DeepMind.

The Alphabet subsidiary claims that anybody may use its new Gemma family of "open models" to construct AI software for both consumers and businesses for free. The company claimed that it is giving the public access to critical technical data, such as model weights.

This would encourage programmers to enhance Google's technological capabilities and grow the business's lately successful cloud computing section. The models are "optimised" for Google Cloud, where the company claims new users will receive $300 in credits for utilising them.

Even if Google did not fully declare Gemma "open source," it's probable that the company will retain some degree of control over ownership and usage limitations. Open-source AI has drawn criticism from some experts who claim it can be abused, but others have defended the approach as a way to increase the number of possible users and contributors.

Unlike Gemma, Google did not make its larger, premium variant, known as Gemini, available with the launch. According to the report, the Gemma models have two billion or seven billion parameters, or the total amount of possible values that an algorithm considers before producing an output.

Gemma Features:

1. Gemma 2B and Gemma 7B come in pre-trained and instruction-tuned versions.
2. Google offers Gemma as part of the Responsible AI Toolkit, which offers resources for safer AI applications.
3. Framework Support: For well-known frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, and JAX, toolchains for inference and supervised fine-tuning (SFT) are available.
4. Easy Deployment: Gemma models work across platforms and can be readily linked with tools like Colab and Kaggle.
5. Commercial utilise: Gemma grants permission to any business to distribute and utilise her work in a responsible manner for commercial gain.

The Gemma is now available for developers all across the globe along with guides and other resources on ai.google.dev/gemma.
