Google Chrome is one of the popular internet browsers used across the world. Due to its enormous user base, it is targeted by cybercriminals on a massive scale. To keep Indian citizens safe from such attacks, the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) flagged multiple vulnerabilities in the browser and urged users to apply the latest update.

The severity rating of the risk is 'high', and the vulnerability note highlights the version "prior to 116.0.5845.110/.111 for Windows" and "116.0.5845.110 for Mac and Linux" are affected. The weak points could be used by an attacker to "execute arbitrary code", the note added.

Further, it may also "cause denial of Service (DoS) condition" and position the sensitive information on the device affected by such attacks at risk. "These vulnerabilities exist in Google Chrome due to use after free in Vulkan and Loader; Out of bounds memory access in CSS, V8 and Fonts. A remote attacker could exploit these vulnerability by sending a specially crafted request on the targeted system," CERT-In said.

These vulnerabilities could have been tapped to churn user data and exploit the affected system. But worry not. The search giant is already rolling out an update to fix the known issues. Here's a step-by-step guide to update your browser and stay safe from these cyber attacks.

Step 1: Open Google Chrome internet browser on your Windows, Mac, or Linux machine

Step 2: Click the three dots at the top right below the red close button

Step 3: Look for the 'Help' tab at the bottom

Step 4: From the sub-menu, click on 'About Google Chrome'

(The browser will automatically scan for the latest update and download the package)

Step 5: Click on the 'Relaunch' button once the download is complete

Repeat the process to verify and check for the 'Chrome is up to date' message in the About tab.

Besides updating the browser, users should not visit malicious websites and click on suspicious links during their internet surfing journey. You can consider updating your computer to ensure superior guard against such threats.
