Google Chrome has been getting a slew of new functions which enhances the user experience as well as safety and has now introduced a new feature which will let users know if an extension that they have installed is no longer in the Web Store.

It will only apply in three cases: when the creator removes the extension from the Chrome Web Store, when it is detected as dangerous software, or when it is removed for violating store regulations.

According to Oliver Dunk, Developer Relations Engineer for Chrome Extensions, "Starting with Chrome 117, Chrome will notify users when an extension they have installed is no longer available in the Chrome Web Store."

While reducing the possibility that this may negatively affect real extensions, this modification attempts to maintain the ecosystem secure for users. The notification will automatically be deleted when the problem is fixed.

"When the developer has been alerted of a potential violation and has been given time to resolve the issue or appeal, the notification will not be displayed for an extension," Dunk explained.

Users can find this feature in the "Privacy and Security" section of the settings page.

"When a user clicks 'Review,' they are taken to their extensions and given the option of removing the extension or hiding the warning if they wish to keep the extension installed," he explained.

Meanwhile, Google is reportedly working on a new AI-powered tool which will help users get the summary of the articles they read on their Android and iOS devices. With the aim of eliminating the requirement of scrolling down and reading all of the text, users will be able to get the key talking points of the article. However, the report suggests it will be available to public websites only.
