GOOGLE, a technology company known for its smart gadgets and services, has announced that the sale of its smart wearable device Glass Enterprise Edition would be discontinued. The tech giant announced that it will continue to support the eye-wearable technology until September 15, 2023.
Additionally, the company has announced that the Meet on Glass application would not be getting any further updates, and the application will also stop responding after September 15.
"You will be able to use the Glass Enterprise Edition device and existing software after September 15, 2023. Google has no plans to release any software upgrades," on Wednesday, the comapny announced the change on its support page.
"Google will continue to replace devices according to the current procedure until September 15, 2023. Please contact your distributor/reseller on your behalf to make a replacement request," the blog post went on to say.
In 2014, the first version of Google Glass was unveiled amid great anticipation. It had cost $1,500 and promised a brave new future for knowledge. The technology, however, was not yet prepared to become a part of people's life, people realised. Health and safety issues were present.
Privacy concerns were also highlighted by the built-in camera. With an enhanced camera, a USB-C type port, and safety frames, the tech giant later released the second iteration of its eye wearable device, known as "Google Glass Business Edition 2" in 2019.
