Google has been pushing Gemini quite aggressively with new features and UI enhancements. Now a new experiment feature might be an attempt from Google to win over existing AI users. Google is apparently keen for people to use Gemini more and then gradually switch away from ChatGPT. To facilitate that, Gemini is experimenting with a feature where chat logs from other artificial intelligence-based conversational systems can be imported into the app so users can pick up right where they left off rather than having to start from scratch. In this article, we will discuss more about it. So without any further ado, let’s head into the article.

Why Google Wants Chat Imports in Gemini

One of the main reasons I resist switching AI platforms is how much work I’ve already put into ChatGPT. Conversations have covered works in progress, research agendas and polished prompts. Google, it seems, is well aware of this problem. Allowing chat history import is one way that Gemini could eliminate the friction that keeps its users being tethered to another AI tool.

It seems to me like moving WhatsApp chats from Android to iOS, but instead of messages, you have AI conversations and context.

How ChatGPT Chats Could Move to Gemini

The web version of Gemini has been found testing this, as per recent reports and some beta builds. The import option shows up in the attachments area, where Gemini reveals a guided, multi-step process for moving AI chat history.

One thing that’s interesting to me is that this might not be a ChatGPT-specific feature. Early indicators point in the direction that other AI tools such as Claude and Grok may also allow chat imports into Gemini, which would make it an even more compelling place to consolidate all your AI work.

Gemini’s Expanding Role Across Google Products

This experiment is just another in Google’s broader AI strategy. Gemini is being integrated into more Google services, including Maps. Google Maps is rolling out new AI-powered experiences for pedestrians and cyclists, bringing hands-free navigation and more intelligent guidance to Gemini users.
