Google AI-powered Virtual Try-On Feature: Following its initial unveiling at Google I/O, Google has gradually rolled out its Virtual Try-On feature across numerous locations worldwide – and now Indian consumers are able to use this technology to "try on" clothes virtually in real time. The idea is simple: if you’re browsing apparel online, you’ll start seeing a “try it on” button across Google surfaces. Tap it, upload your photo, and the AI will generate a realistic preview of that outfit on your frame.
How the Virtual Try-On Works
The feature is powered through Google’s Shopping Graph and will appear across product listings on Google Shopping, Google Images and anywhere else clothing items are indexed. Once enabled, users can upload an image and let the system handle the rest.
At the heart of this tool is Google’s custom fashion-focused image model, trained to recognise body shapes, posture and fabric behaviour. Instead of pasting clothes on top, the model simulates how material bends, stretches and drapes differently on varying builds — whether it’s cotton, polyester, denim, wool or blends.

Why Google Is Bringing It to India
India’s online fashion market has seen rapid growth, fuelled by e-commerce, social commerce trends and increased appetite for digital shopping. Clothing returns are also among the highest in online retail due to incorrect sizing and mismatched expectations. The virtual try-on, if accurate enough, could reduce returns, improve confidence and bring more users into Google’s shopping ecosystem.
Where You’ll See the Feature

Over time, more brands and retailers are expected to integrate their catalogues so users can try on a wider range of outfits.

Gemini App Experience Also Getting Refined
With this announcement comes news from Google that the user experience for their Gemini application will be upgraded in the near future! Page Manager Logan Kilpatrick announced that Google has heavily invested in their user interface, making improvements by way of a cleaner look, easier-to-use visuals, and improved layouts, all designed to enhance the experiences of users using these updates. The upgrades to Gemini's interface will allow for easier search and access to the many new features recently introduced into the Page Manager.
Final Thoughts
Google’s virtual try-on comes at a time when AI-driven commerce is rapidly reshaping how people shop. By offering realistic previews of clothing on real body photos, the feature aims to solve one of online fashion’s biggest friction points. As listings expand and the tool gets smarter, virtual fitting rooms could become a default part of online apparel shopping in India.
