Google might be on to something behind the curtains; reportedly, the tech giant is working on an Artificial Intelligence (AI) feature in Google Maps that will make it easier to edit listings, making it much more accessible for users. Google might be trying to upgrade the 'Suggest an Edit' feature with Gemini integration. This will give access to users with a conversational interface where they can change or correct information listed on maps about any place or shop.

What Is The Supposed New Feature About?

Google Maps may soon get an AI-powered interface for its Suggest an edit tool. According to a report by Android Authority, Google is working on a Gemini-driven experience that was spotted during an APK teardown of the Google Maps app version 26.05.04.860829830. The feature is currently not available to users.

The Suggest an edit tool lets users update or correct details of listings on Google Maps, helping the platform stay accurate through crowdsourced inputs. At present, the process involves moving through multiple screens and manually entering information, which increases the chances of typos or accidental errors when updating things like business hours, name changes, or closures.

The tech giant is assimilating Gemini's chatbot-style interface with the new feature, which would make the experience similar to what people are used to these days with AI chatbots. According to screenshots from Android Authority, the interface has a Gemini-style look, where users can type changes they wish to have as a prompt. As Gemini is capable of understanding context and intent underlying the messages, users can just update the information using natural language prompts. Only recently Google Maps just got an update, where it added Gemini's voice-based assistance for navigation while walking and cycling.
