Google unveiled a number of new features that would use artificial intelligence (AI) and regional partners to make Maps travel in India more effective and sustainable. The company has now added a road width feature, flyover route feature and more for a better driving experience.

"To address this, we've developed an AI model specifically for Indian roads that incorporates multiple signals -- satellite imagery, Street View, and other information like road types, distance between buildings, paved sections, etc to estimate road widths at scale," informed Miriam Daniel, vice president and general manager of Google Maps.

Google Maps Road Width, Flyover Route Feature:

This not only makes driving less stressful for four-wheeler drivers, but it also makes using these tiny roadways safer and more confident for bikers, walkers, and other commuters. Additionally, the business is incorporating "clear callouts" into the Maps, Directions, and Navigation displays to notify users of any narrow areas of the route, allowing them to proceed with caution or select a different path.

Flyovers along the suggested route will be signalled by another feature. This will make it easier to foresee impending flyovers and get ready in advance to board the flyover.

Google Maps Features Availability:

This week, the feature is being rolled out by the company on Android handsets in eight cities: Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Coimbatore, Indore, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, and Guwahati. The company anticipates adding more cities and iOS support in the near future.

"For both two- and four-wheeler active navigation on Android applications and Android Auto, you'll see these flyover callouts in 40 Indian cities starting this week. Support for iOS and CarPlay is on the way," stated Lalitha Ramani, General Manager of Google Maps for India.

EV Charging Stations, Food Stalls And Traffic Notifications:

The IT giant stated, "We're cooperating with key EV charging providers in India ElectricPe, Ather, Kazam, and Statiq to contribute authoritative information for over 8,000 charging stations, representing a large share of available charging stations in India."

Google and ONDC stated in December of last year that they would be working together to improve Google Maps' public transit experience. In Kochi and Chennai, the Google Maps metro booking feature is currently operational. Every day, millions of reviews, images, company adjustments, and route updates are shared by over 60 million users.

"We've made reporting traffic incidents easier. You may now report traffic accidents or ongoing construction with a few touches, making the process simple and less distracting. Google announced that this update is accessible in India on Google Maps for all operating systems, including iOS, Android Auto, Android, and Apple CarPlay.
