Google Messages Update: Google announced a range of tweaks for its messaging application Google Messages a few weeks ago. It seems the company is not willing to stop and aims to infuse more AI magic into the app via its chat model Bard. According to a 9To5Google report, the company is preparing to introduce the chat model to help users write messages, translate texts in different languages, recognise photos and more.
As per the APK Insight post, the hints of the feature in the development were discovered in the latest beta version of Google Messages on the Google Play Store after decompilation. However, a reader must note that the search giant may or may not ship the features in the future.
If the company plans to ship the feature, Bard may be available on the "New conversation" window below the "Create group" button. The option could show up as a standalone chat with the chatbot logo, its name and text "Meet Bard, a conversational AI," and description: "Understand, create, or explore something new". Based on the strings of codes in the app, upgraded Google Messages could help users write texts, identify pictures, translate messages, offer suggestions based on user queries and more.

Plus, based on the code strings (of penpal), Bard in Messages may help a user draft dinner ideas, get book recommendations, prepare recipes and more. "Write a text message I can send to my boss calling in sick today. It's a big team presentation day, so I'm sad to let everyone down. 3 sentences or fewer," an example prompt read. Messages generated with Bard are marked with a star and timestamp.

You may be able to explore more options (react, copy, forward or star) after a long-press on the message. The company cautions in the texts that Bard may deliver inaccurate responses and chats generated using the AI model are not end-to-end encrypted. "They're used to improve Google services, including the machine-learning models that power Bard," the description noted. The "reviewed data is disconnected from your account and retained for up to 3 years."
