Google Messages Message Editing Feature: Soon after Google announced a host of features for users across the globe to celebrate the one billion RCS users milestone, it seems the company is not ready to pause for a moment. In the latest news around the app, a report from TheSpAndroid claims that the company is working on a message editing feature.

As per the publication, the company added hints of the feature in the works in the beta build of the Messaging app. The four flags were spotted in the version released in November. Digging deep into the .apk file of Google Messages showed up four code strings.

The snippets highlighted in the report are:

- bugle.enable_edit_ui

- bugle.load_edit_history

- bugle.process_outgoing_edits

- bugle.process_incoming_edits

The first string indicates that it may be possible for users to edit messages in the UI. The second code snippet hints at the functionality to load the edit history of messages. Lastly, the third and fourth codes hint at the processing of the requests from the sender's end and reflecting these changes in the recipient's app.

Even after enabling the feature, the news outlet could not access the functionality, which highlights their in-development character. The update comes after WhatsApp introduced its message editing option recently. The Meta-owned app allows editing functionality on its app for up to 15 minutes after sending the message.

Apple has been allowing the option to edit messages on its popular iMessage solution since the iOS 16 update in 2022. Unlike WhatsApp, the window to edit messages in the app is two minutes. Both instant messaging applications allow users to even delete messages after sending them, a feature currently missing on Google Messages.

Questions around the time limit to edit messages in Google Messages and the accessibility of the edit history remain unanswered at the time of filing. However, it was reported that the system could work with RCS protocol.
