Popular Meta app Instagram is introducing a range of features within the DMs side of the platform to improve the chat experience. Among the significant updates in the announcement is the option to edit DM messages. These come as a part of the company's push to make the social media platform a "fun and private way" for people to connect.
If you are an active Instagram user who chats via Direct Messages on the app, here are the new features to know.
Edit Your Messages: With the new feature, users can edit messages for up to 15 minutes after sending them. Users can press and hold a message and tap the "edit" option from the menu to start editing their texts.
Pin Chats To Top: You will soon get an option to pin chats to the top of the DM inbox (up to three groups or 1:1 chats). Users can swipe left on a chat or tap and hold to view the "Pin" option. Users can also reverse their decision (unpin) of pinned chats.
Read Receipts Toggle: Users can now toggle read receipts for all chats or some specific ones. To do this, head to "Settings" and tap "Messages and story replies". From the "Show read receipts" option, you can either keep read receipts on or off.

Save Favourite Stickers: Users can save favourite stickers in DMs via press and hold. After they are marked favourites, these stickers will appear at the top in the stickers section. Besides stickers, Instagram accounts can reply via videos, GIFs, voice notes or photos to chat.
Themes in Chats: Instagram also introduced new themes, including Love, Lollipop, Avatar: The Last Airbender and more. The 'Love' theme will soon get an animated makeover. "To change the theme for a chat, tap the chat name up top, go into themes, and pick one of the themes available."
