Instagram Down: Meta-owned social media platform Instagram on Thursday suffered an outage again, as many users globally experienced server connection issues while accessing Instagram's mobile application. However, the outage was restored soon as the reports of users' complaints on Downdetector, the outage monitoring service, reduced significantly.

Downdetector showed a surge in cases of users reporting issues with Instagram at around 7 pm today. Over 15,000 users have reported the issues globally, while over 1,500 users from India faced problems while accessing Instagram mobile app. The graph on Downdetector showed that most of the complaints in India have been raised from Bengaluru, Delhi, Lucknow, Nagpur, Mumbai, and Hyderabad. Instagram users also shared screenshots, depicting the failure to log in and inability to view photos and profile pictures, within the app.

Among the issues reported by the users on Downdetector, Server Connection Failure was at the top with 55 per cent of total reports. Issues with the App and failure to log in were at 39 per cent and six per cent, respectively. Apart from India, Instagram users from Australia, Brazil, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States also faced disruptions while accessing the Instagram mobile app.

Disgruntled Instagram users took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their frustration with yet another outage in Instagram, which has been marred by many disruptions in the recent past. Check out some reactions here:

Upcoming updates on Instagram:

Instagram reportedly is developing a new AI Friend feature which will allow users to create a friend as per their liking. According to a report by TechCrunch, users will be able to communicate with the AI to "answer questions, talk through any challenges, brainstorm ideas, and much more". According to the report, users will be able to choose the gender and age of the chatbot and can also customise their AI's ethnicity and personality.

Apart from the new AI Friend, Instagram head Adam Mosseri on his broadcast channel announced that the app is testing a new collaborative feature that will allow your friends to add photos to your posts. "New test on Instagram. We just started testing a new way to invite friends to join in on your feed posts. Before posting a carousel, you can turn on the ability for your followers to submit photos and/or videos, which you can approve to add to the post," he said.
