Instagram continues to work on new features to improve the user experience on the platform. The company is now working on a 'Blend' option that creates a customised feed based on the Reels recommendation you share with your friends. Confirming to TechCrunch, Instagram shared that the option is an "internal prototype" and not undergoing testing externally.

A few days back, the feature was spotted by reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi, who is renowned for discovering under-development features on the photo-sharing app. Based on the screengrab shared on X (formerly Twitter), the feature will enable "Reels recommendations based on Reels you've shared with each other [you and your friend] and your Reels interests".

These recommendations are "private between the two of you." Users may be allowed to leave a Blend at any time. This would imply if users are invited by a friend to a "Blend", the platform will generate a personalised feed of Reels based on the Reels content you exchange with each other and the content you make like, depending on your interests.

According to TC, it could be similar to Spotify's feature to combine favourite songs in a shared playlist that launched in 2021. While the recommendations will be private, it is unknown if this feed will get updated with new recommendations. It can be seen as Instagram's attempt to improve Reels discovery among friends and boost the watch time of the platform.
