Photo-sharing app Instagram introduces new features at regular intervals. In a fresh attempt to improve the user experience, the company is adding increased limits for carousel posts on the platform. Based on the latest tweak, users can add up to 20 content pieces (including photos and videos) in feeds. Earlier this limit was set to 10.
According to Instagram, the change can help users allow "easier ways to express themselves" and upload content with friends - "just in time for end-of-summer 'photo dumps'". As per the screengrab of the "Share more moments" page, you can "add up to 20 photos or videos in your next post". This applies to one grid and the number of photos and videos combined.
For context, the carousel feature debuted in 2017. The company has gradually increased features such as pairing songs in slides and collaborative posts to let other accounts add content in a carousel. The increased ceiling could be helpful in the case of these partnership posts. According to Social Media Today, the company has been testing a limit expansion in recent times and increased the limits to 15 photos in March.

While some users reportedly had the option to upload 20 frames for some time, the recent confirmation ensures this will reach all users in the coming days. The move brings the Meta platform nearer to TikTok, which currently supports up to 35 images in one post. Meanwhile, the company also shared a change coming to insights on Instagram.
"We're making an update within insights to make 'Views' the primary metric for Reels, Stories, photos and carousels. Historically we've shown different metrics for Reels vs other posts, but we want to evolve this so it's easier to understand how your content is doing regardless of the format. We'll roll this out over the next few weeks," Instagram Head Adam Mosseri posted on the platform.
