JE Technology Desk: Despite dropping usage numbers, Meta's Twitter Rival Threads breached the 150 million sign-up mark. The app was launched on Android and iOS on July 5 in over 100 countries and soon ranked in the charts of top free apps on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

As per stats from Data.ai, the text-based social media app reached this milestone within seven days of release. Recent reports claimed the app has the largest share of users in India, which is estimated to be around 32 per cent. After India, Brazil is second with 22 per cent sign-ups, and the US holds 16 per cent. Mexico and Japan have 8 and 5 per cent accounts, the report added.

"It [Threads] did so 5.5 times faster than the second-fastest to that point, Niantic's Pokemon GO, which has held the largest app launch title since it debuted in July 2016," citing the report, IANS reported.

For a quick background, the app booked 100 million users in the first five days. It breached the two million mark within two hours of release and 10 million in seven hours, which moved to 30 million in 12 hours.

Meta recently launched the beta program on the Google Play Store for Android users to test new features and fix issues. "For Android users who love to live on the cutting edge, sign up for our beta below. New features and bug fixes will come on here first, but you'll also have to accept an increased risk of a more unstable build since its earlier," an engineer from the company said. The app will soon get features like a Twitter-like "Following" Feed and the option to switch between accounts.
