JE Technology Desk: Soon after Meta launched Threads, a text-based social media app, users were swift to point out that deleting a Threads account without deleting an Instagram account was not a possible option. This led to massive media reportage and backlash on social platforms. Amid all the buzz, the latest update is that the company is planning a way out for users to still live with their Insta ID while scrapping Threads.
At the time of launch, owing to the close connection with the photo-sharing app, new users on the platform exploded and the company witnessed unprecedented downloads. The download sheet has crossed over 70 million.

The policy document of the platform states, "You may deactivate your Threads profile at any time, but your Threads profile can only be deleted by deleting your Instagram account." However, this will change, as Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, said Meta is examining a solution for this.
Taking cognisance of the matter, Mosseri added that users can deactivate a Threads account which will hide the profile and content. Plus, users can set their profile as private or delete posts, all without deleting the Instagram profile. "Threads is powered by Instagram, so right now it's just one account, but we're looking into a way to delete your Threads account separately," the Instagram boss added.
The app debuted amid the account restrictions and reading limit guardrails placed by Elon Musk on Twitter to curb data scrapping by AI firms. Threads is now live in 100+ countries, including India.
The company recently opened a beta program to test new features on Threads before they are live for the public and share feedback for improvement. In the current scheme, users can post text of up to 500 characters, images and videos (up to 5 minutes) on the text updates app. You can read more on this here.
