JE Technology Desk: Threads, a text-based social media app closely linked with Instagram, was announced by Meta recently to take on the microblogging app Twitter. It has reportedly added over 50 million accounts since it debuted yesterday. But users and Twitterati were quick to flag that while it is similar to Twitter in terms of core purpose, it does not have basic features like hashtags and a 'Following' feed. At the moment, the platform has one complied feed that combines posts from accounts you follow and other recommended content.

According to TechCrunch, Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, has iterated that the Following feed (similar to Twitter) is "on the list" of features the company plans to bring in the upcoming days. Mosseri was responding to popular tech reviewer Marques Brownlee who shared feedback to add the section on the home feed.

Instagram also has a similar feature that lets users view posts from people they follow. As for more features, Mosseri confirmed that the functionality to switch between accounts and the editing option for posts is also on the cards. He iterated that many basic facilities, including the option to search hashtags, are still not there on Threads.

The option to like posts by double tapping was planned initially, but it did not materialise. "You don't want to have an element that you can both tap and double tap," he said, as the first tap opens a thread at full length. In another update, Gizmochina claims hashtags and graph syncing will also debut on the app.
