JE Technology Desk: Meta unveiled its text-based social media app Threads today to lock horns with the widely popular microblogging app Twitter. It successfully gathered over one crore downloads just a few hours after launch. However, the information in this report will be a setback for those who are not liking the app and wish to delete their Threads profile. We say this because to do this, you will also have to forgo your linked Instagram account.

According to TechCrunch, the rationale given for this by Meta is that Threads is a part of the photo-sharing app, which is surprising to users who have signed up for the new app. However, deleting individual posts is always an available option.

Threads Supplemental Privacy Policy reads: "You may deactivate your Threads profile at any time, but your Threads profile can only be deleted by deleting your Instagram account."

What Is The Solution?

While there is no alternative to deleting an Instagram account if users wish to scrap their Threads profile, you can 'deactivate' the Threads account and not delete it as a corrective measure. However, do note this will not delete your identity from the platform.

Meta Threads: How To Deactivate Your Account?

Step 1: Tap on the profile icon at the bottom right

Step 2: Hit the settings icon located at the top right

Step 3: Go to 'Account' and then tap 'Deactivate profile'

Follow the process and carefully read the on-screen instructions.

Threads debuted amid the chaos Twitter is undergoing because of the reading limits announced by Elon Musk and the requirement of a Twitter account to view profiles on the microblogging app.

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, shared on the new platform: "I think there should be a public conversations app with one billion+ people on it. Twitter has had the opportunity to do this but hasn't nailed it. Hopefully we will." He also shared that the platform has already crossed over 10 million users within seven hours. It debuted in over 100 countries, including India. As per the report, top corporate names such as Amazon, Netflix, Pepsi, NFL has already signed in to the app.
