JE Technology Desk: Meta launched a Threads app on Instagram that continues to witness massive downloads. In the latest move, the company has unveiled a beta program for users on Google Play Store. The build will have "new features and bug fixes" before the stable release. But it will be relatively unstable.

Users can join the Threads beta app without a waitlist, which means users can head to the Play Store, enrol for beta and get instant access. Considering the lack of features, it will be an enticing option for users as it promises early feature rollout.

"For Android users who love to live on the cutting edge, sign up for our beta below. New features and bug fixes will come on here first, but you'll also have to accept an increased risk of a more unstable build since its earlier," a Threads engineer shared.

Here is how to enrol for the beta program:

Step 1: Head to Google Play Store

Step 2: Search for 'Threads' in the search bar

Step 3: Scroll to the bottom of the app page and tap on the 'Join' button in the 'Join the beta' section

However, the beta description notes: "Certain data on your use of the app will be collected and shared with the developer to help improve the app." The app has crossed over 70 million sign ups since its launch. Threads currently miss out on basic features such as a 'Following' feed, hashtags and more.

Meta Threads: Rise In India

Sensor Tower Data reveals that on day one of launch, the app was downloaded the most in India with 22 per cent total downloads. In second and third place was Brazil (16 per cent) and the US (14 per cent). About 75 per cent of the total downloads were on Android, and the rest were from iOS. If the figures are to be believed, Threads is the most downloaded social media app on the first day of launch.

Users can log in to the app with their Instagram credentials. The company has promised more features to better compete with Elon Musk's Twitter in the future.
