Soon after Google introduced the passkeys, Apple is now introducing the password-less system for its iPhones, iPads, and Macs using which the users would be able to login without passwords. The users would get an assigned passkey for login with the upcoming iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and macOS Sonoma.
The company hopes that by making this change, users will be able to use FaceID or TouchID saved on their iPhone or Mac to access any application or tool linked with their Apple ID. Apple PassKeys are now in beta testing for iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and MacOS Sonoma, and will be available to the public with the release of iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and MacOS Sonoma.
Users will be able to login in to the Apple website or iCloud and view backed-up data directly on the web with a Chrome or Edge browser, primarily Drive, Notes, Contacts, Mail, Photos, and Calendar files. Option for iCloud Find Devices is also available on the iCloud Web.
According to The Verge, the passkey is now available for beta testers. Based on the report, when users try to sign in to Reddit, Twitter, or Windows PC in Chrome, a 'Sign in with iPhone' button appears, and if the user selects the option, it will allow them to sign in by scanning the QR code with iPhone. It further stated that people have also discovered that they can login using Apple devices as well as Android devices, although Android devices do not have this option.
Meanwhile, Google Passkeys have also been added to Gmail, allowing users to sign in without entering a password because they now have a biometric ID. Google has provided users with the option of manually activating the mode. Users can access passkeys by tapping on their profile photo, then managing their Google account, then security, and finally passkeys.
