iOS 18 Call Recording: Apple announced iOS 18 at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024 a few hours back. Among the much-requested additions was call recording in the Phone app. The upcoming OS will let you record and transcribe calls using the app. Once a user responds or makes a call, they can enable the recording feature.

Participants in the call will be notified about the activity to ensure transparency during conversations. While the call is being recorded, the iPhone will return a transcript of the spoken word. Plus, the feature can generate a summary for easy recall. Besides call recording and transcription, users can "search call history more easily, dial smarter, and switch SIM cards seamlessly" in the iOS 18's Phone app.

Meanwhile, the recording capabilities in the Phone app across Android devices have been available for a while now. While Google already offers announcement-based call recording via the Phone app, several Android smartphone manufacturers like Samsung, OnePlus and more offer capabilities for anonymous recording, which has drawn mixed reactions from experts in several instances.

Speaking of Apple, the feature will display a recording bar with soundwave and the duration of the recording. As these recordings are transcribed, users can generate a summary of the conversation via Apple Intelligence beta. Similar audio recordings and transcription capabilities will also be available in the Notes app.

The transcription feature will be available in English in the US, UK, Australia, Canada, India, Ireland, New Zealand and Singapore. Other supported languages include Spanish (US, Mexico, Spain), French (France), German (Germany), Japanese (Japan), Mandarin Chinese (China mainland, Taiwan), Cantonese (China mainland, Hong Kong), and Portuguese (Brazil).
