iPhone 16e Vs iPhone 16: After much anticipation and wait Apple has finally revealed its first surprise of the year which is the iPhone 16e. Many rumours were going around that made us think that we might get a new edition to the SE lineup but instead, Apple went with an affordable iPhone in the 16 series lineup itself. Considering this it's valid to ask which one is better, packs more power and offers the best value. Let's compare both models individually and see which one offers the best bang for the buck.
Pricing and Variants
The pricing for iPhone 16e in India starts at Rs 59,900 and comes in three storage options-
128GB – Rs 59,900
256GB – Rs 69,900
512GB – Rs 89,900
You can choose from two colour options black or white.
While the iPhone 16 starts at Rs 79,900 and also comes in three variants-
128GB- Rs 79,900
256GB-89,900
512GB-1,09,900
You get the option to choose from five colours namely- black, white, pink, teal, and ultramarine.
Design
Design-wise the latest iPhone 16e sports a look similar to the iPhone 14 but with a few tweaks here and there, Apple has definitely said goodbye to its old SE-style look. The 16e carries an Action Button this time. On the other hand, the standard iPhone 16 model has a new design, which can be found in the latest Apple 16 series iPhones, and the Pro model gets a bigger display as well. Each device has a Ceramic Shield front.
Both the models are also water resistant to a depth of 6 meters can last for 30 minutes, and have an IP68 rating.
Notch or Dynamic Island
iPhone 16e also has the same screen and display design as the iPhone 14, with a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display, which carries a notch. This model has a peak brightness of 1,200 nits (HDR)
The iPhone 16 series on the other hand also has a Super Retina XDR display but comes with a dynamic island, which is one of the latest features that Apple has introduced. This model comes with a peak brightness of 2000 nits when outdoors and 1,600 peak brightness on HDR.
Performance
Both the iPhones have the A18 chip as their powerhouse except the Pro model which comes with the A18 Pro chip. Speaking of the GPU the 16e has a 4-core GPU while the standard iPhone 16 has a 5-core GPU and the pro model has a 6-core GPU. Depending on the kind of gamer you are this could give you some direction on what you want to go for.
Camera, Dual or 2-in-1?
The iPhone 16e has a 48-megapixel 2-in-1 fusion camera which is an upgraded version, and also supports 2x telephoto zoom.
The iPhone 16 on the other hand has a dual camera setup, with a 48-megapixel fusion and 12-megapixel ultrawide lens, and also supports a 2x telephoto zoom. Both cameras support Visual intelligence that learns about your surroundings and renders visuals accordingly.
Battery Life
With the latest entry, Apple has boasted a surprising battery life and promised to offer up to 26 hours of video playback time.
While the vanilla iPhone 16 comes with 27 hours of video playback time. Both the devices come with USB-C and also support USB 2.
The 16e and the standard iPhone 16 both support wireless charging, but the iPhone 16e supports wireless charging of up to 7.5 watts while the iPhone 16 supports 25 Watts.
Packed with AI?
Both the devices are ready for Apple Intelligence thanks to the A18 chip and also boast features like Face ID, SOS and Crash Detection.
Best Bang For The Buck?
So, both devices are packed with features and offer the latest in tech, but which one has the best value? Well iPhone 16e is definitely cheaper when we go for the 128GB version but at the same time if you are going to buy a 512 GB variant of the iPhone 16e, in my opinion, the better choice would be the vanilla iPhone 16 as you can get the 256 GB variant at the same price, the only compromise here would be storage space, and for someone who does not have much demand for that, the iPhone 16 standard would be the better option. The iPhone 16 series also offers a few more perks when it comes to display and the Dynamic Island and for those who want the latest tech by Apple, again the choice would be the standard iPhone 16 in my opinion. But in the end, it completely depends on your usage and the value you want to get.
