In less than six months we might get to see the next big thing by Apple, which is its expected iPhone 17 series lineup, and fans have been excited for this release more than ever before. As the date comes closer and we are about to reach September, conventionally the month when Apple makes its big announcement, there are many leaks and rumours on the internet that give us a supposed glimpse of what the new lineup could have in store this time.

In this article, we will look at the iPhone 17 Pro's expected key upgrades over its predecessor the iPhone 16 Pro.

While there has been a lot of buzz around the iPhone Air being dubbed as the thinnest iPhone yet, we must not look over the fact that the Pro variant this time might come with some sizeable upgrades. The Cupertino-based tech giant might be planning to upgrade the expected 17 Pro model with a new camera setup with upgraded sensors, a change in fram material, and might sport a bigger battery and the latest Apple chipset.

A New Look For The Camera?

We might get to see a new camera design as well if rumours turn out to be true, leaks suggest a more rectangular pill-like design for the camera module this time, this would give the phone a look that would somewhat look like the camera we have seen in Pixel 9 Pro, but more in width as the leaked CAD renders suggest.

There are also talks about Apple going horizontal with its camera setup, and some reports suggest that we might get to see a change but the lens arrangement would still remain like it is in current models, triangular. If Apple does go with a horizontal layout this could impact the way iPhones capture spatial video.

A19 Pro Chip On The Horizon?

It is likely that the new lineup will come with the A19 Pro chip under the hood, built on an enhanced 3nm process. The A19 Pro is expected to offer an exponential uplift compared to the A18 Pro chip in the current iPhone 16 Pro, in terms of performance and efficiency.

Another big thing that the rumours are going around about is the increased RAM, and the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max model could host 12GB RAM this time, an upward movement from the 8GB we have in current generation devices.

Saying Goodbye To The Titanium Frame?

Apple first introduced a titanium frame with the iPhone 15 Pro series and carried it over to the iPhone 16 Pro models. However, new reports suggest a shift is on the horizon — the iPhone 17 Pro is expected to move to an aluminium frame, making it the first Pro model to use aluminium since the stainless-steel iPhone X.

The back design might also get a refresh. According to leaks, the iPhone 17 Pro could feature a combination of aluminium and glass. The upper portion of the rear panel may be made of aluminium, while the lower half is likely to stay glass to ensure wireless charging remains functional. This change is expected to boost the phone's overall durability, helping it withstand drops more effectively.

New and Improved Camera Sensors

One of the most anticipated upgrades in the iPhone 17 Pro is expected to be its camera system. According to rumours, all iPhone 17 models could feature a 24-megapixel front-facing camera — a notable leap from the 12-megapixel sensor used in the iPhone 16 Pro. This upgrade should lead to sharper selfies and enhanced video quality.

As for the rear cameras, the iPhone 17 Pro Max is rumoured to come equipped with three 48-megapixel sensors: a primary camera, an ultra-wide lens, and a tetraprism periscope telephoto lens. If these reports are accurate, it would mark the first time an iPhone has sported three 48-megapixel cameras on the back. Additionally, the Pro models may introduce a mechanical aperture, giving users more control over light intake and enabling better photography in varying lighting conditions.

Bigger Battery, Same Charging Speed

Battery life has always been a major focus for Apple, and the iPhone 17 Pro is expected to feature a larger battery this time around. In addition, Apple may make battery replacements more straightforward by continuing to use the same removable adhesive method introduced in the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus. This approach would make it easier for users to replace the battery without needing complex repairs.

That said, don’t expect a boost in charging speed. The iPhone 17 Pro is still expected to support up to 35W wired charging, so there likely won’t be any major improvements in how quickly the device powers up.

With all said, we must be careful with these specs as most of them are based on rumours and leaks and nothing official is out yet. We are quite aware of how tight-lipped Apple will be until we reach the final countdown of days, so stay tuned as we bring you the latest updates.
