Following Twitter, Meta has launched the Meta Verified subscription in India, which is identical to the Twitter Blue subscription. However, unlike Twitter, Meta will not remove the existing blue ticks from the profiles of already verified Instagram and Facebook users. Instead, the blog post explains that these accounts have passed a certain set of criteria in order to confirm their authentic presence, but they are more prone to impersonation, so the blue badge on their profile is useful.

Additionally, the company has also announced that the existing verified users are not needed to pay the subscription fees of Rs 699 per month. But it is still unclear whether they will get access to connect to Meta’s customer support directly or not, as Meta Verified subscribers will have.

“We’ll also retain the verified badge for accounts that were verified before the introduction of Meta Verified. These accounts passed through a set of criteria to confirm their authentic presence and may be more susceptible to impersonation than the average user. So, it’s important we maintain the verified badge to protect their accounts and the people that engage with them,” Meta said in its blog post.

Further, the company has highlighted that it aims to make a subscription that is valuable to everyone which includes different categories such as creators, and businesses. Additionally, it has also announced that it would be evolving the meaning of subscriptions and verified accounts.

“Long term, we want to build a subscription offering that’s valuable to everyone, including creators, businesses, and our community at large. As part of this vision, we are evolving the meaning of verified accounts on our apps so we can expand access to verification and more people can trust that the accounts they interact with our authentic,” Meta added.

To subscribe to Meta Verified India, users must must be 18 years old, a minimum activity requirement along with a government ID that matches the profile name, and photo on the display of Facebook and Instagram profiles.
