JE Technology Desk: Netflix, a popular video streaming platform in India, has introduced its password-sharing crackdown in India. The OTT platform is sending emails to members who share their account credentials outside their households.

India is not the first country to test this crackdown. Netflix has already introduced it in the US, New Zealand, Canada, Spain and other countries to garner more consumers.

According to TechCrunch, Netflix wrote in a letter to stakeholders: "In these markets, we're not offering an extra member option given that we've recently cut prices in a good number of these countries (for example, Indonesia, Croatia, Kenya, and India) and penetration is still relatively low in many of them so we have plenty of runway without creating additional complexity. Households borrowing Netflix will be able to transfer existing profiles to new and existing accounts."

Netflix password sharing crackdown: How to set up Netflix Household?

Step 1: Log in to your Netflix account from a TV connected to the internet via your home connection (Wi-Fi or Ethernet)

Step 2: Head to the menu and select 'Get Help' and 'Manage Netflix Household'

Step 3: Click on the option that reads 'Confirm Netflix Household or Update My Netflix Household'

Step 4: Opt for 'Send Email or Send Text' and wait for the authentication link on your preferred medium (these two options will appear if you have updated both the details in your account. In other cases, one option will appear)

Note: This generated link will expire in 15 minutes

Step 5: After addressing the request from the link, select 'Yes, This Was Me' or tap on the link received via Text Message

Step 6: Select 'Confirm Netflix Household or Update My Netflix Household'

Step 7: Once you see the confirmation, tap on 'Continue to Netflix'

This action will be confirmed via an e-mail from the company. "A Netflix Household can be set using a TV device. All other devices that use your Netflix account on the same internet connection as this TV will automatically be part of your Netflix Household," the OTT platform states.
