Nothing, a London-based tech giant, has announced two smartphones in India since its inception: Nothing Phone (1) and Nothing Phone (2). Be it software updates or new features, CEO Carl Pei regularly introduces users to the latest tricks around these devices. In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Pei demoed ChatGPT being used as a virtual assistant on the handset via a widget on the home screen.
Users of a Nothing Phone can access OpenAI's language model via Quick Settings and the launcher home screen via a shortcut. The option will be available on the Phone (2) and Phone (1) devices, the Nothing boss confirmed on Elon Musk's platform. If you also own one of the phones, here is how you can use OpenAI's virtual assistant on your device.
How To Use ChatGPT From Nothing Phone's Home Screen?
Step 1: Download the ChatGPT application from the Google Play Store
Step 2: Configure the app and use it at least once on your handset
Step 3: Now add the app's shortcut to your Quick Settings panel or Quick Settings widget
Step 4: From here, tap the ChatGPT shortcut to open ChatGPT as your voice assistant
Step 5: After the language model is activated, you can input your commands using your voice

"ChatGPT in Quick Settings + Nothing OS Quick Settings Widget = Delightful experience," Pei posted on X. "To use this, install the ChatGPT app from Play Store and make sure to use the voice chat feature at least once." The code snippets for a similar functionality were recently spotted by Android expert Mishaal Rahman in the latest version of ChatGPT.
Meanwhile, speaking of other updates around Nothing, the company is likely gearing up to announce the Nothing Phone (2a), a lighter trim of the Phone (2) in February. You can learn more about the details here.
