ChatGPT New Features: Amid the ongoing affairs in OpenAI around the firing and hiring of Sam Altman as the CEO, the company has announced a feature expansion for its free users. In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), the AI research firm shared the platform is now releasing voice capabilities for the language model. Announced initially in September, the feature can be used to engage in a conversation with the assistant.

According to OpenAI, users can request bedtime stories, settle dinner debates and more using their voice with the enhancement. Users can head to the 'New Features' section within the Settings in the mobile app to use voice conversations. From the headphone icon in the top-right of the home screen, they can choose a voice depending on their choice.

"ChatGPT with voice is now available to all free users. Download the app on your phone and tap the headphones icon to start a conversation." OpenAI said. In the demo video, the user asks the model for the number of pizzas that should be ordered for 778 people (roughly the same as the current workforce of the AI research company). Here is the demo.

The voice option runs on a text-to-speech model that can generate audio "from just text and a few seconds of sample speech". ChatGPT uses Whisper for live transcription of voice. The release comes amid the ongoing turmoil around the employment of Sam Altman, which has led to varying reactions.
