OnePlus has just dropped its latest OS based on Android 16, the OxygenOS 16. This time you will get to see a refreshed interface, a wider array of customisation options and, obviously, some new AI capabilities powered by AI. The update is also a step forward in collaboration with Google, as the Plus Mind Hub gets integrated with Gemini AI. Apart from that, OnePlus is also moving forward in terms of cross-device connectivity with its latest and enhanced O+ Connect support, which means that you might get to see improved connectivity with Apple products as well.

The interface now features soft Gaussian blur effects, rounded UI elements, and translucent layers visible across Quick Settings, the Home Screen, and the App Drawer. These visual touches extend to OnePlus’ built-in apps like Clock and Calculator. Personalisation options have grown too, with more lock screen layouts, new clock styles, lock screen widgets, and depth wallpapers. Motion Photos and video wallpapers are also supported for the first time.

Improved Fluid Cloud

Fluid Cloud, OnePlus’ answer to Dynamic Island, now works with more apps. Users can see live updates from Spotify, food delivery platforms, or sports apps in a small floating bubble without switching screens.

Performance Updates

OxygenOS 16 introduces the new FlowMotion animation engine, designed to make navigation feel faster and transitions smoother. With Parallel Processing 2.0, animations and actions can overlap, reducing lag and improving multitasking across the system.

AI and Gemini Integration

AI features take a step forward with the integration of Google Gemini into the Plus Mind hub. By using the Plus Key or a three-finger swipe, users can save text, screenshots, or links directly into Plus Mind. Gemini can then reference this saved data when answering queries. The AI Writer now supports mind maps, charts, and caption generation, while new image tools—AI Portrait Glow and AI Perfect Shot—refine lighting and framing automatically.

Cross-Device and Apple Support

The updated O+ Connect supports wireless file sharing across Windows, macOS, and OnePlus devices. iPhone users can also share files with OnePlus phones by simply bringing the devices close. Additionally, Apple Watch users can now sync notifications, control the camera, and share health data with OnePlus phones.

Tablet-Focused Features

On tablets, OxygenOS 16 introduces a redesigned home layout with adjustable icons and a dock for up to 18 apps. The Open Canvas feature now supports up to five active apps at once, mixing split-screen and floating window modes. Tablets can also connect to Windows PCs for remote control and drag-and-drop file transfers.

Rollout Details

The Open Beta Programme for OxygenOS 16 starts on October 17. The OnePlus 15 will launch with the software preinstalled, while the broader rollout begins in November 2025.
