Google Pixel 9 Series AI Features: Search leader Google launched the Pixel 8 series in India in October this year. While the handset currently runs Gemini Nano on-device, Google is reportedly readying an advanced AI assistant that could debut with the Pixel 9 series smartphones. According to a report from The Information, the 'Pixie' assistant will be able to accomplish "complex and multimodal tasks".

Pixie could help users with directions to a store for buying a product photographed on their smartphone, Engadget reported. Powered by the company's in-house Gemini model, it may be exclusive to Pixel products and utilise data from Google apps like Gmail and Maps. This could make Pixie a more personalised iteration of the popular Google Assistant.

The innovation is reported as different from Google's similar AI endeavour - Assistant with Bard, which was presented at the Made By Google event earlier this year. This could be an attempt to sustain better in the AI landscape next to the popular OpenAI chatbot ChatGPT. Google recently announced Gemini large language model (LLM) in three different iterations as a direct rival to the Sam Altman-led OpenAI's GPT-4.

Gemini Nano is all set to debut on more Android phones (joining the top-of-the-line Google Pixel) in the entry-level 'Nano' iteration that can help people summarise calls irrespective of online connectivity and offer more features. For the unaware, the Gemini multimodal model will also power the upcoming generation of Bard and the company's AI Assistant. According to the report, Pixie could debut next year.

Moreover, the company is also testing Smart Reply in Gboard for suggesting "high-quality" responses. It will be available on Meta app WhatsApp in the initial days.
