All the old-school gamers out there must have played the OG Prince of Persia series. And if you have completed the series, you know how good Prince of Persia: Sands of Time was. Now we expect some improvements in Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. And the remake is expected to release sooner than expected. Earlier, Insider Gaming claimed that Ubisoft is up for releasing the remake before April 2026. However, now, according to PC Gamer, the chief financial officer at Ubisoft, Frederick Duguet, during the recent annual general meeting, said that the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake is going to be released very soon.
Ubisoft CFO Hints at Imminent Release
Duguet has confirmed that Tencent’s investment in Ubisoft will be utilised for enhancing operations on their existing franchises and improving the strength of their live games.
PC Gamer quoted Duguet saying:
“We’ve got some iconic brand names in our catalogue that we can either activate or reactivate with little investment. This goes to the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, which is going to be released very soon, or even Splinter Cell later on.”

It is one of the strongest proofs that Ubisoft is preparing to launch it earlier than expected.
A History of Delays
The Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake’s project timeline is as follows:
Ubisoft Pune and Mumbai studios were relocated to Ubisoft Montreal for development purposes in 2022 and the overall game underwent significant redesign efforts before its anticipated release date of January 2021. Unfortunately, several delays occurred as a result of these events as well as
Current status: Its still in development, but it’s expected arrival before mid-2026 (assuming no more delays occur). Until that happens.
Ubisoft is committed to improving the game quality, and can be a reason for these delays as they are trying to make sure that game is up to the modern standards continuing the legacy of the original.

What Changed Since 2021?
The original included:
Lowenthal was announced as the voice actor of Prince of Persia until Jordan Mechner, its series creator, took over in 2022. Unfortunately, with all the changes occurring since 2022 it remains uncertain if either Mechner or Lowenthal continue contributing any way.
Final Thoughts
Given everything we’ve seen or heard up until now, Ubisoft is saying the right things, which leads many to believe we are finally getting to the end of the road with the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake. Despite the game having been in perpetual development hell for over three years now, the renewed focus on older titles tells me that Ubisoft is finally ready to revive this special game. My concern is that if Ubisoft goes through with this, and strikes the right mix of using the old formula with new changes, this game could resurrect one of the studio’s old flagship titles and it could reclaim the studio’s flagship status.
