OpenAI's Sam Altman has stated publicly that he has privacy apprehensions when using some AI tools. Altman shared that he has personal privacy concerns about oversharing information, stating, “I don’t know who’s going to have it.” Altman’s concern suggests that balancing AI innovation with necessary safeguards regarding privacy and data protection poses significant challenges. As well, he commented on the fierce competition AI has, which raises questions around the future of humanity during the evolution of AI.

Altman on the Risks of AI Development

When asked whether AI progress should slow down, Altman explained that the AI race is too competitive to allow for delays. According to him, if OpenAI doesn’t push forward, other companies will, which could shift control away from those who are most concerned about AI’s social consequences.

“Uncertain About Human Future”

Altman further added during the discussion to the podcast how, in a world with AI technology, the future is unpredictable and uncertain.

“I think all of human history suggests we find a way to put ourselves at the centre of the story and feel really good about it … Even in a world where AI is doing all of this stuff that humans used to do, we are going to find a way in our own telling of the story to feel like the main characters,” Altman said.
