CES 2024: The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024 was an AI-packed event this year with a pivotal focus on the hardware integrations of the technology. Amid the range of products, a US-based startup announced Rabbit R1, which the maker calls a "pocket companion". The Santa Monica-headquartered business said the AI device runs on a custom natural language operating system and aims to usher an app-free smartphone experience.
The standalone device aims to minimise distractions and let the user monitor digital tasks in a more efficient and "delightful" manner. This standalone handheld offers Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity for communication. It uses a Large Action Model (LAM) to accomplish tasks and interact with apps using a cloud service. For a detailed look, here are the specifications and price of the device.
Rabbit R1 Specifications, Capabilities
Wrapped in Luminous Orange, the R1 gets a 2.88-inch TFT touch screen. It weighs 115g and is 13mm thick. A push-to-talk button (to give commands to the system), a scroll wheel (to navigate through the UI), and a 360-degree 8MP rotating camera (called the "rabbit eye") are among the top hardware elements of the device. The camera can be used for video calls and other purposes.

It runs on Rabbit OS, built on a natural language interface that can be used to order meals, interact via messages, book cabs, play audio tracks, display weather information and accomplish other tasks without mobile apps.
The device can study app interactions and perform actions on behalf of the user without using the app package and learning through AI. Users can connect accounts to Spotify, Uber, Amazon and more apps via "Rabbit hole", a private web service. The R1 has a MediaTek Helio P35 chip with 4GB RAM and 128GB storage.
It has a 1,000mAh battery that can run all day. As for connectivity, the device gets a 4G LTE-enabled SIM card slot, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, magnetometer and USB-C connectivity. The device has an accelerometer and gyroscope sensor.
Rabbit R1 Price
Rabbit R1 costs $199 (approximately Rs 16,500), and shipments will begin in March 2024 in the US (more countries will be added later). Pre-orders for the device are now live on the product's website, and no subscription is required to operate the device.
