We’re in the final month of 2025, and for survival horror fans, that means one thing: Resident Evil Requiem is almost here. Set for a February 2026 launch, Capcom’s next big Resident Evil entry is already among the most anticipated games for both console and PC players. As expected, the rumour mill is working overtime, and a fresh leak has now stirred up discussion around returning characters and playable roles.

While Capcom has stayed tight-lipped so far, a recent retailer listing may have dropped a major hint — accidentally.

Did GameStop Leak a Second Playable Character?

According to a Reddit post by user Hot-Challenge-2755, a GameStop listing for the Resident Evil Requiem Deluxe Edition briefly mentioned bonus cosmetic items for Rosemary “Rose” Winters, alongside outfits for newcomer Grace Ashcroft.

That instantly raised eyebrows. Until now, Grace Ashcroft is the only officially confirmed playable character in Requiem. The mention of Rose suggested she might be the second playable character, returning after her last appearance in Resident Evil Village: Shadows of Rose.

The interesting part? The listing was later edited to remove Rose’s name entirely. That move has only added fuel to speculation that GameStop revealed something earlier than planned.

It’s also worth noting that producer Masato Kumazawa previously confirmed that familiar characters would appear in Requiem. So Rose’s presence wouldn’t be surprising—at least on paper.

The Timeline Problem With Rose Winters

Here’s where things get complicated. Based on the current timeline, Rose Winters would still be very young during the events of Grace Ashcroft’s story — likely around six or seven years old. That raises obvious questions about how she could fit into full-scale survival horror gameplay.

Fans have floated a few theories:

- A time jump later in the game

- A separate playable chapter set years ahead

- Or limited gameplay segments rather than a full campaign role

- Without clarity from Capcom, Rose’s potential involvement remains murky.

And What About Leon S. Kennedy?

No Resident Evil rumour cycle is complete without Leon S. Kennedy. Leaks suggesting Leon’s return as a playable character have surfaced multiple times, with claims that he’ll appear significantly older in Requiem.

However, Dusk Golem has already disproved this theory as false; nonetheless, it remains plausible, as an older Leon would make more sense gameplay-wise than his child counterpart and therefore continues this theory's relevance.

All Eyes on The Game Awards

Right now, Requiem’s character lineup is a puzzle filled with half-answers and contradictions. Rose Winters, Leon Kennedy, or someone else entirely — nothing is confirmed yet.

Thankfully, the wait for answers may be short. Resident Evil Requiem is confirmed to appear at The Game Awards on December 11, where Capcom is expected to reveal more details. Whether that means clearing the confusion or deepening the mystery is anyone’s guess — but horror fans should be watching closely.
