Sam Altman News: Soon after the news of Sam Altman vacating the seat of the CEO at OpenAI, the AI research and deployment company behind sensational chatbot ChatGPT, there is a set of information that might seem like a U-turn. According to sources cited by The Verge, the board of the firm is considering the return of the AI superboy.
One of the people close to the subject told the news outlet Altman is "ambivalent" about his comeback but may ask for substantial changes in the governance. A source said the board "agreed in principle to resign" initially to make the pathway for Sam and Greg Brockman (president and co-founder who resigned yesterday). But, it failed to zero down on a decision.
Altman discussing a return at OpenAI a day after his exit hints that the CEO was among the linchpin for the company. Moments after the CEO and president put down papers, rumours are rife that they are planning a new company. According to The Information, three senior researchers also resigned from the company, and more exits may happen.

Soon after the news of the AI superboy departure gripped the internet, Microsoft (a firm that works closely with OpenAI on AI advancements) shared they "remain committed" to their association. However, The New York Times reported the Redmond giant was among the pressure groups supporting Altman's return. Plus, a recent post on X (formerly Twitter) from Altman is being speculated as a medium to make rumours stronger. Here's the post:
i love the openai team so much

With the new decision, OpenAI's future stands in apprehension as the AI race sparked by ChatGPT continues to heat up and witness fresh competition. The report asserted that Ilya Sutskever, co-founder and chief scientist of OpenAI, played an instrumental role in Altman's ousting. The trade-off between the two arms - research and product led to a power struggle, as per the news outlet's sources.
For the unversed, Sam was removed on the grounds that "he was not consistently candid in his communications with the board," NYT reported. After Altman's resignation, Mira Murati was named the interim CEO of the company. You can read further details about the new CEO here.
