Ever since Samsung rolled out Galaxy AI, users have been wondering how long its features will be free. Official statements indicated that Galaxy AI would be “free until the end of 2025,” leading people to speculate about whether certain features would eventually become paid.

With this new update, however, Samsung seems to have clarified what might stay free, along with what could become paid.

Galaxy AI: What’s Free Forever and What Isn’t

Samsung confirmed to Android Police that all Galaxy AI features available “on your phone by default” will remain free permanently. This includes Samsung-developed AI tools, which means users won’t lose access to functionality even after 2025.

Samsung also provided a list of features that would remain free and added that all Galaxy devices would have these features.

Free Galaxy AI Features (Developed by Samsung):

  • Live Translate
  • Note Assist
  • Writing Assist
  • Generative Wallpapers
  • Audio Eraser
  • Object Eraser
  • Summarisation and Formatting Tools in Notes, Keyboard, and Gallery apps

As for the users who actively use Google’s Gemini features, there is a second category of Galaxy AI features—those powered by Google Gemini. These are available for free of cost on Samsung phones but don’t seem to be fully under Samsung’s control.

What About Google’s Gemini Features?

There’s a second category of Galaxy AI features—those powered by Google Gemini. These are currently offered free on Samsung phones but aren’t under Samsung’s full control.

Potentially Paid Features (Powered by Google):

  • Gemini AI assistant
  • Advanced text/image generation
  • Context-aware smart replies

With some primary functions of Gemini still available for free, Google has already rolled out Gemini Advanced, a paid tier with Gemini’s advanced features. Samsung has hinted that access to Gemini’s advanced features will, at some point, become subscription-based, particularly after the ongoing promotional period concludes.

Why the “End of 2025” Deadline Exists

The “free until the end of 2025” wording serves as legal cover for the company. Samsung most likely incorporated the disclaimer to protect itself from future liability if any outside AI providers (such as Google or prospective collaborators like Perplexity AI) decide to implement a fee for their services.

With all of that in mind, Samsung is clearly stating how far they are willing to go: Samsung will keep their own AI features free and will look to incorporate paid AI features from other companies in the future.

Final Thoughts

With confirmation from Samsung, the long-awaited Galaxy AI features created by Samsung will always be free on your Galaxy phone. Although some third-party tools like Gemini may eventually have a subscription fee, Samsung users can always count on Samsung's core AI tools staying free. It seems like Samsung's mix of in-house and external options for AI Galaxy tools is here to stay for years to come.
