Samsung Galaxy S22 series One UI 8 Android 16 rollout has encountered a surprise halt. European and partial Asian users started receiving the heavily-anticipated update for their Galaxy S22, S22+ and S22 Ultra last week. But now we are reading that the company has suspended the update, at least for the time being, due to performance problems.
One UI 8 Rollout Suspended
It appears some X (formerly known as Twitter) users have discovered that Samsung’s latest firmware updates, S908EXXUCGYIF and S908BXXUIGYI7 for One UI 8, are being reversed to earlier versions of One UI while, at the same time, Samsung too is downgrading their builds on its update servers. This rollback effectively halts the over-the-air (OTA) update for all Galaxy S22 models at this time.

User Complaints About Battery and Performance
A handful of users were reporting battery drain, performance issues and random lag not long after updating. That said, some users are saying their devices run just fine so perhaps the problem isn't as widespread.
There is no official statement published by Samsung up till now that explains the exact reason behind the sudden termination. However, the company reportedly may have spotted a potential bug or compatibility problem and it paused the pause to bring in overall system stability.
No Major Risks Reported So Far
No users have reported bricked devices or data loss due to the installation of One UI 8. If you haven't already updated or experience issues related to Wi-Fi connectivity or battery life after applying One UI 8, Samsung should release a hotfix update shortly afterwards.
The rollout will continue to be halted for those who haven’t received the update while Samsung finishes testing and addresses any issues that have been identified.
The Last Major Update for Galaxy S22 Series
Released in 2022, the Galaxy S22 series enters its last major Android update period, with third-party requirements lining up with Samsung’s promise of four OS updates and five years of security patches. Following One UI 8 for Android 16, the S22 will push security updates but not major platform releases.
What’s Next
And in the coming days, Samsung is likely to again make One UI 8 available to eligible devices after working on the issues and confirming system stability globally. Beforehand, the Galaxy S22 lineup will get small updates or patches to enhance battery optimisation and better their performance.
The halt, which is expected to be temporary, illustrates Samsung’s cautious attitude as it seeks reliable software and satisfied users at a time when One UI 8 is introduced on more Galaxy devices.
