JE Technology Desk: Sony Playstation consoles have a large fanbase in India that droll on its amazing gaming capabilities. While PS 5 is still a capable pick for gamers, we can expect the next iteration of PlayStation and new Xbox as early as 2028, according to court documents accessed by IGN.
Microsoft (who is defending its stand in a case concerning the acquisition of Activision Blizzard in a US court) expects the next-generation gaming consoles to mark an official appearance in 2028. This implies the successors to the current generation PlayStation 5 and Xbox X and S could debut after eight years.
The information came from the documents that discussed a 10-year commitment to Sony to release Call of Duty titles on PS consoles. "This term would in any case go beyond the expected starting period of the next generation of consoles (in 2028)," IGN reported, citing the tech giant.
From the documents, we can speculate that Microsft is working on its gaming consoles. And to recall, Sony and Microsft released their high-end gaming machines in the same year. The Japanese giant released PS 5 on November 12, 2020, two days after the launch of the latest Xbox series. This trend is similar for their predecessors too.
These release year expectations are similar to what Sony has iterated in the past. It does not expect the upcoming PS to come out until 2027.
For the unversed, the Redmond-headquartered tech giant is defending its stand in the $69 billion acquisition deal against US Federal Trade Commission.
The FTC trial has revealed several details about the future of the gaming industry. In another update, the Xbox boss confirmed that Microsoft will continue to ship Call Of Duty to future PlayStation gaming consoles after the acquisition of the game developer.
