Sony Xperia 1 VII: Sony is gearing up to unveil the Xperia 1 VII next week, but nearly everything about the flagship has leaked ahead of the May 15 launch. Thanks to Android Headlines, we now have a detailed look at the device from every angle—complete with marketing materials, official renders of all three colour variants, and key specs. There’s little left to the imagination, and Xperia fans have a lot to be excited about.
Check Out The Renders Here!
Familiar Design, Classic Xperia Touch
Sony isn’t reinventing the wheel here. The Xperia 1 VII sticks with the brand’s signature boxy design, featuring a flat frame, flat back, and flat display. Top and bottom bezels are present—slightly thicker than on most modern flagships—but that’s intentional. Instead of a punch-hole camera, Sony keeps the front uninterrupted, housing the selfie cam in the bezel.
You’ll find all physical buttons—including the volume rocker, power/fingerprint combo button, and a dedicated shutter key—on the right side. Around back, there’s a triple-camera setup housed in a vertical array in the top-left corner. And yes, the audio jack is still alive and well on this phone, positioned up top.
Colour options include Black, Green, and Purple, all of which were shown in a series of high-resolution renders shared by Android Headlines.
ZEISS Optics, Larger Ultrawide Sensor, and Camera Enhancements
As expected, Sony is pushing its imaging capabilities hard. The Xperia 1 VII features ZEISS T* coating on its lenses to reduce glare and reflections, continuing a long-standing partnership. The rear setup includes an ultrawide camera, a main wide-angle shooter, and a periscope telephoto unit.
One of the biggest upgrades is the new ultrawide camera, which is reportedly 2.1 times larger than the one used in the Xperia 1 VI. That translates to better low-light performance and improved macro shots—something Sony is promoting heavily in the leaked marketing materials.
There’s also mention of a new Autoframing feature and a Lock Focus function, both of which aim to enhance subject tracking and stability in photos and video.
Brighter Display and BRAVIA Technology
Sony’s display tech takes a step forward this year. The Xperia 1 VII is said to use dual ambient light sensors—one on the front and one on the back—to optimise brightness and colour reproduction in real time. A special “Sunlight mode” will help ensure visibility even under direct sunlight.
This will likely be another 4K OLED panel, though the exact resolution wasn’t confirmed in the marketing materials. What’s clear is that Sony is leaning into its BRAVIA branding once again for colour tuning and media playback.
Hardware and Performance: Snapdragon 8 Elite and 12GB RAM
Under the hood, the Xperia 1 VII is expected to ship with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. A recent Geekbench listing suggests that at least one variant will come with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM.
Sony has also packed in a 5,000 mAh battery, promising “two-day battery life” based on internal testing. Software support is another highlight, with four years of Android OS updates and six years of security patches planned. Android 15 will come pre-installed.
Audio Upgrades and Multimedia Focus
Sony continues to lead in the audio department. The Xperia 1 VII includes full-stage stereo speakers, and according to the leaked info, the low-to-mid range has been improved by around 10% over the Xperia 1 VI.
Hi-Res Audio, Hi-Res Audio Wireless, LDAC, and DSEE Ultimate are all supported, reinforcing the device’s media-first identity. For creators and cinephiles, this could remain one of the best all-around phones for both shooting and consuming content.
Launch Details
Sony has officially confirmed a May 15 launch event in Japan for the Xperia 1 VII. Global availability is expected to follow shortly afterward, in line with Sony’s previous release patterns.
With its refined design, upgraded camera system, performance-focused specs, and signature Xperia features, the Xperia 1 VII could be Sony’s most well-rounded flagship yet.
