JE Technology Desk: Media reports have repeatedly iterated that Meta is working on Threads, an app that will compete with Elon Musk's Twitter. And in the latest move, a mobile developer shared the first official screenshots besides informing that it was live on Google Play Store for a while.
Alessandro Paluzzi, known for revealing unreleased features of smartphone apps, shared the description and UI images of Meta Threads on Twitter. However, the app was taken down from Google's app market later, The Verge said in a report.
In the screenshots shared by Paluzzi, some of the visual hints of the upcoming app were revealed. As per the image, users can "Log in with Instagram" or switch profiles to use the app. Threads users will get the option to follow accounts of the photo-sharing app.
Like Twitter, a 'paperclip' icon to attach media sits in the post-edit menu with a word count at the top right of the UI. After posting the message, four icons to like, reply, repost, and share are visible on the lines of Instagram's design theme. A small circular picture of the account holder's profile appears on the top left of their comment or post. A verified checkmark is visible next to the username hinting that Meta Verified could expand to this app.
"Threads is where communities come together to discuss everything from the topics you care about today to what'll be trending tomorrow. Whatever it is you're interested in, you can follow and connect directly with your favorite creators and others who love the same things — or build a loyal following of your own to share your ideas, opinions and creativity with the world," the description of Threads, an Instagram app reads.
The company is reportedly working on this project (Project 92) since January. At the time of writing, Threads does not have an official launch date. But the latest development hints that it may hit the app markets soon. The app is the reason behind the cage match between Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg that has got the internet buzzing.
