JE Technology Desk: Meta announced Threads recently to compete with Elon Musk's microblogging platform Twitter. And the war of words between Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg and the Tesla CEO is intensifying and taking messy turns since then. For the unversed, the new platform has already crossed over 100 million signups.
In comparison, Twitter had 368 million monthly active users in December last year, citing Statista, The Economic Times reported. Amid the buzz, Elon Musk recently claimed that users will "get more laughs" from Twitter compared to other social media apps combined. The remarks came amid the verbal war directly linked with the launch of the text-based social media rival from Meta.

Musk adds that the microblogging app has "some negative stuff" too. In another instance, Musk replied to a screengrab of chats where Zuckerberg responds to a question that indirectly concerns the Tesla CEO. The original Thread was posted from Wendys, a fast food restaurant's Threads account that said: "Hey @Zuck [Mark Zuckerberg], you should go to space just to make him really mad lol." Responding to the message, the Meta chief replied with an emoji with tears of joy. Joining the chat was the Tesla chief's response that Zuckerberg is a 'cuck'. The term is used to describe a weak man, mainly in politics.
Musk also plans to sue Meta for hiring ex-employees of the microblogging app that had access to the platform's confidential details and exclusive secrets. A spokesperson from Meta denied such claims and added no employees in the Threads engineering team have a corporate history of working with Twitter.
However, a point worth mentioning is that after the takeover deal of Twitter last year, Musk fired a large portion of the workforce from the app to minimise the financial crisis and stabilise the platform. Firing shots in a previous tweet, Musk added: "Threads is just Instagram minus pics, which makes no sense, given that thirst pics are the main reason people use that app."
