Within a few days of its launch, Instagram-backed Threads, which was recently announced to compete with Twitter's microblogging network, has officially surpassed 100 million sign-ups. Not only that, but Twitter's traffic is currently declining. According to a report, Meta's Threads have surpassed the record set by OpenAI's ChatGPT, which exceeded the mark after two months.
Meta introduced its Twitter-rival application on July 6 in over 100 countries and has achieved a good ranking in the top free application categories on Google Play Store and Apple App Store. The text-based application witnessed over 2 million sign-ups in two hours and in four hours has crossed the mark of 5 million users. Further, the report suggests, the app got 10 million users in seven hours and over 30 million sign-ups in 12 hours.
Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince tweeted a graph on Sunday demonstrating Twitter's falling domain name system (DNS) ranking from January to the present. Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, tweeted on Monday, "You will get more laughs from this app than from everything else combined."
Mark Zuckerberg's stake in the Metaverse was mentioned in a tweet, to which Musk replied, "Censorship pays them well."

Additionally, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri had made it clear that Meta does not intend to take the place of Twitter but rather to serve as a public forum for Instagram communities that have never really taken to Twitter as well as for communities on the Elon Musk-operated platform "that are interested in a less angry place for conversations, but not all of Twitter."
Meanwhile, according to a new report, Threads customers may not have to deactivate their Instagram account if they delete their Threads account. It was previously claimed that users who wish to remove their Threads account must also deactivate their Instagram account.
