Elon Musk's X (formerly called Twitter) has officially changed its URL to X.com after a massive overhaul in 2023. Taking to X, the Tesla CEO shared that "all core systems are now on X.com". It means once you type twitter.com in your internet browser, you will be redirected to the new URL (Uniform Resource Locator).
The development also highlights the company is in the final leg of removing traces of the Blue Bird and 'Twitter' references. The microblogging platform already displays a message that it is changing the URL on the sign in/sign up page. However, settings around data and privacy remain unchanged.

"We are letting you know that we are changing our URL, but your privacy and data protection settings remain the same," X states on the sign-in page. This URL transition has been under experimentation and highlighted in reports for a while. However, the recent transition of all core systems comes as an official word of a major transition.

For the unaware, even after Musk announced the new branding and logo a long time back, the URLs continued to have the "twitter.com" reference. While the majority of these references are now wiped out, we could still find 'Twitter' references in the URL of embed codes and Help Center. Meanwhile, the platform updated its official accounts, paid subscriptions and mobile apps a long time back to reflect the rebrand.
This rebrand comes as the new leadership aims to make the platform an everything app. In the renewed push, the company has emphasised videos, job posting and calling-based features. Soon after Musk's takeover deal, the SpaceX boss introduced a premium service, paywalled the blue tick and removed most of the legacy checkmarks.

With these changes and the new branding, Musk aims to further its vision to create something like WeChat to make an all-in-one app and become a one-stop solution for messaging, banking, job search, video consumption and social media.
