Vivo is preparing to unveil Origin OS 6, its next-gen software based on Android 16, in China next month. The upcoming Vivo X300 series is expected to debut with the new interface right out of the box. But now, a fresh leak suggests that Vivo and iQOO smartphones in India could soon ditch Funtouch OS for Origin OS, giving Indian users the same experience as their Chinese counterparts.

Vivo, iQOO Smartphones Could Switch to Origin OS in India

The latest tip that surfaced on X has it that Vivo is reportedly to replace its Funtouch OS for Indian UI Origin OS. Even though the post implies this one is “confirmed,” take it with a pinch of salt until an official announcement rolls out.

India Vivo and iQOO devices are powered by Funtouch OS that's been designed for the Indian too. A switch to Origin OS would be a major shift, bringing India’s software experience in line with China.

Not the First Time Origin OS Rumors Have Surfaced

Origin OS' arrival in India has already been hinted at on Reddit; an anonymous post by someone claiming to be employed at Vivo India suggested Origin OS 6 (Android 16-based) will eventually launch in the country, initially targeting flagship devices and then slowly rolling out to midrange and entry-level smartphones.

Origin OS 6 Launch Confirmed in China

Vivo has finally confirmed the launch date for the Origin OS 6 in China, and it is set to be announced on October 10. It is anticipated that the Vivo X300 and X300 Pro will be the first phones to pre-install Novo 16-running skin. If the leak is true, this launch could pave the way for India to see its eventual departure from Funtouch OS.

What This Means for Vivo Users in India

If Vivo does introduce Origin OS in India, users can expect:

- A unified global interface across Vivo and iQOO phones

- Faster updates since the software won’t need dual development

- A more streamlined Android 16 experience with updated design and features

For now, though, it remains a leak. Vivo has yet to officially confirm whether Funtouch OS is on its way out in India.
