Secret Code In Chat Lock: Instant messaging application WhatsApp announced the lock chats feature for users in May this year. With the aim to improve the experience for the ones who use the feature, the company is now introducing the "secret code" enhancement. This allows users to apply an additional guardrail to access these chats using a unique password. The feature lets users hide personal chats and limit their visibility from prying eyes.

With the latest enhancement, users can hide these chats from the conversation list using a different access code than their phone's password. The code can include a mix of alphabets, numbers and special characters, reported TechCrunch. Once hidden using the new feature, these messages can be accessed only after entering the code in the search bar at the top. It will limit people to grasp that you have locked chats on WhatsApp.

"Rolling out secret code to Chat Lock on WhatsApp so you can protect your chats with a unique password. Now you can set your locked chats to only appear when you type the secret code in the search bar, so no one can 'unintentionally' discover your most private conversations," Zuckerberg said in a Channels post on WhatsApp.

The current method in which a locked chats folder appears within the chat list will continue to exist for users. WhatsApp's latest enhancement has started rolling out and will be released globally in the coming weeks. Coming to the debut of Chat Lock, these chats were accessible using the device password, fingerprint reader or registered Face ID via a separate folder at the top of the conversation list.

Users can "tap and hold on a chat to quickly lock it," according to WhatsApp. On a related note, the company is also releasing a "Voice Chats" feature to let group users initiate an audio chat with participants. This is different from a group call that takes the entire screen space on WhatsApp and occupies a small bar at the top within a group conversation. You can read more on this here.
