Meta-owned app WhatsApp regularly grabs eyeballs in the media for introducing new features and testing the upcoming ones in the beta channel across platforms. In the latest update on Android beta, the company is now tinkering with an option to let users filter group chats. According to WABetaInfo, this function will be available for users in a future version of WhatsApp.
As per the report, while the feature is in development, it is not rolling out to beta testers. But, it was discovered in the version - '2.23.19.7' on Android. With the feature, the company aims to offer enhanced control over conversations and help manage and prioritise messages on the app.
In the screengrab shared in the report, it is evident that WhatsApp has added a new filter named 'Groups', which once tapped, excludes personal messages from the list. Further, in the build, the company has renamed the 'Personal' filter to 'Contacts' to make the bifurcation of chats easier. The option earlier included messages from groups and communities.
Now, the option includes individual chats only. Plus, the 'Business' option has been removed from the list. The new option will help users divide chats across categories to help them stay organised and address queries faster. Given the wide range of groups on WhatsApp, this option will provide a separate space dedicated to these conversations.
Filtering group chats have been among the demanded features of users in the past. With the arrival of the option in the future, WhatsApp accounts will have a new useful option that will upscale the user experience.
