Meta-owned messaging app WhatsApp tests new features on its platforms on mobile and PC at regular intervals via its beta program. In the latest testing build for iPhone users, the texting app is developing a feature to let users select different chat themes for specific chats on iPhones, according to WABetaInfo.
As per the report, the feature was spotted in development in the iOS beta '24.17.10.71' version and is not rolling out to testers at the time of writing. The company was earlier spotted working on a feature to introduce more default chat themes on iOS for a personalised experience. The available options in the chat theme may offer a unique colour treatment for the message bubble and background wallpaper in future.

In the latest beta build, the company is now working to improve the theming experience for contacts. Based on the screengrab shared in the report, the feature to choose themes for specific chats will be available within the chat info screen. This will allow people to set varying colours for messages and backgrounds for different contacts.
Once a user sets a different chat theme for a specific contact, it will override the default theme preset of the general settings. Users may get the option to choose from a variety of options and view how the changes appear in a chat. The Meta app may offer 10 options to choose from. Note that the chat theme choice will remain private to the user and not appear in the recipient's chat window.

The feature can ease the differentiation of chats between conversations and assign unique themes to chats and visually assign to chats a different appeal. Beta testers must ensure their app remains updated (via TestFlight) to the latest build to try out the feature whenever it starts rolling out.
