WhatsApp, a Meta-owned messaging app, grabs regular limelight for testing new features on the app. In the latest update, the company is now developing a feature to translate chat messages into your preferred language. According to WABetaInfo, the feature was spotted in the Android beta '2.24.15.9' version. It is expected to be available in an upcoming version of WhatsApp.
As per the report, the 'under development' feature will allow users to translate all chat messages within a conversation. While the feature is in development, it is not ready for testing and is not rolling out in the beta build on the Google Play Store. In a previous update, the company was developing the feature to translate messages via language packs without using any other third-party translation apps.

The handy feature could help users maintain the flow of information when communication can be better understood in a different language. As per the screengrab shared in the report, the "Read your messages in your preferred language" could translate all new messages in a thread if a user toggles on the feature. From the 'Select language' option, you can choose from available languages (Arabic, English, Spanish, Hindi, Portuguese and Russian).

With this automatic translation, communication with people across different languages is set for a major improvement. As per the report, WhatsApp is working on an in-house message translation technology for maintaining end-to-end encryption during the process. The platform may download language packs for this purpose.
The processing will take place on-device for added privacy and data security and will eliminate the requirement to translate messages via external servers. Meanwhile, speaking of other updates in beta, the company is testing the option to manage and pin channels on iOS. Rolling out in the iOS beta '24.14.10.78' version, users can pin up to two channels in the list.
