WhatsApp has been working on new updates to enhance the user experience and is now rolling out a new feature which will let users transcribe voice notes. With this, the Meta-owned instant messaging platform aims to enhance accessibility and offer convenience for all users by letting them transcribe voice messages.
According to WaBetaInfo, the platform is handing out the capability to select beta testers in various countries with the Android 2.24.15.5 update. It is planned to become live for general users in the coming weeks.
According to the related screenshot from the report, users can transcribe incoming and outgoing audio communications, but this requires downloading an additional data package to protect user privacy.
According to the report, voice transcripts are generated on-device, which implies that no one else has access to the voice message notes or transcripts. Data packages are offered in several languages, including English, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, and Hindi. The company intends to add support for more languages.
This feature will help the users engage in the conversations with voice notes even if they are in a situation where they cannot listen to the voice notes, they can transcribe it to text notes instead. The feature will be privacy-oriented and safe for the users.
It will also save the time of the users who receive lengthy voice notes, as it allows them to quickly transcribe them and read them. For those unaware, the transcription provides a quick reference even through searching voice notes later, enabling the users to find and review the content of voice notes without having to replay them.
“A feature to transcribe voice messages is available to some beta testers who install the latest updates of WhatsApp beta for Android from the Google Play Store, and it is rolling out to even more people over the coming weeks,” the company said.
